The National Events Center (NEC) in cooperation with the Authority of People with Disability (APD), organized an awareness workshop at the Center’s headquarters in Riyadh entitled “How to Interact with People with Disabilities.”
The workshop was held as part of the partnership between the two entities to strengthen the participation of people with disabilities in events and to provide more inclusive and accessible experiences for all members of society.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness among the NEC employees on appropriate interaction with people with disabilities by introducing key concepts related to their rights and empowerment, thereby contributing to more inclusive workplace environments.
Participants were introduced to the legislative development related to the rights of people with disabilities in the Kingdom, the objectives of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, relevant terminology and concepts, as well as the principles of reasonable accommodation and accessibility, and their importance in enabling persons with disabilities to access services and facilities on an equal basis with others.
The workshop also covered general guidelines for interacting with people with disabilities and appropriate communication practices tailored to different types of disability, thereby helping improve the quality of services and experiences provided while promoting a culture of inclusion and mutual respect in workplaces and events.
This workshop is part of the NEC's ongoing efforts to promote awareness of practices that support the empowerment and inclusion of people with disabilities, enhance the beneficiary experience, and create more accessible environments across the events and initiatives overseen by the Center.
The National Events Center is responsible for developing the Kingdom’s events sector by empowering event organizers, enhancing visitor experiences, and adopting best practices that expand participation across all segments of society while supporting the growth and sustainability of the sector.
